Samsung T9 Portable SSD Drops to $240 at Amazon

Amazon has cut the Samsung T9 1TB portable SSD to $240, a 17% discount from its original price, according to TechRadar's top-rated review.

TechRadar's benchmark testing, including AJA System Test and CrystalDiskMark, showed the T9 approaching the interface's theoretical limits, with read and write speeds near 2,000MB/s across multiple tools. The drive includes XTS-AES 256-bit hardware encryption, drop resistance up to 3 meters onto steel plates, and both USB-C to USB-C and USB-C to USB-A cables. Samsung backs it with a five-year limited warranty.

The 2TB version is also discounted to $405 from $575 at Amazon. TechRadar notes that the 1TB model is available at $240 at Best Buy as well, while the 2TB model there costs $440, more than Amazon's price.

The $48 discount off the 1TB model's original $287.99 price is about 17 percent. TechRadar previously considered the T9 overpriced at its MSRP relative to rivals such as the Kingston XS2000, and this discount narrows that gap.

In its 4-star review, TechRadar praised the T9's sustained write performance for handling large project files and camera footage, as well as its rubberized exterior that survived drop tests from 3 meters. However, the drive requires a USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 port to deliver full speed; on older USB 3.2 Gen 2 or Gen 1 ports it performs like the cheaper T7. It also lacks IP-rated water and dust resistance.

TechRadar recommends the T9 for users who regularly move large video or photo files and have compatible hardware, while advising those with older ports or tight budgets to consider other options.
