Seven Horror Titles Head to Streaming Services in October 2026

TechRadar's October 2026 horror streaming guide lists seven titles arriving on Hulu, Netflix, HBO Max and Shudder, with most available early in the month.

Four films arrive on October 1. Barbarian is on Hulu in the US and available to rent or buy in the UK and Australia. TechRadar said the film, Zach Cregger's first horror hit, is worth watching while his Resident Evil is in theaters and recommended going in with as little information as possible. The movie follows a woman who arrives at a rental house, finds it double-booked with a man already staying there, and reluctantly agrees to spend the night. Hereditary also arrives on Hulu in the US and is available to rent or buy in the UK and on Stan in Australia. Ari Aster's film stars Toni Collette as a woman tormented by supernatural events after her mother's death; she uncovers disturbing secrets and her husband and children are soon in danger. Hush comes to Netflix in the US and Shudder in the UK and Australia. Mike Flanagan's home invasion horror follows a deaf and mute author trying to survive after a serial killer enters her home, using silence and editing for tension. TechRadar noted that Flanagan's series Midnight Mass, also on Netflix, adapts the book seen in Hush. Lake Placid is on Netflix in the US, available to rent or buy in the UK and on 10 in Australia. The horror comedy about a 30-foot crocodile terrorizing a lake in Maine drew poor reviews but has become a 1990s cult favorite, the guide said.

Evil Dead Burn arrives on October 5 on HBO Max in the US, with rental or purchase options in the UK and Australia. The newest Evil Dead film received mixed reviews from fans and follows a grieving widow who seeks comfort with her late husband's family at a secluded home, only for them to transform into demonic Deadites.

V/H/S/Mixtape will stream exclusively on Shudder worldwide on October 9. The found-footage anthology focuses on sound, rhythm and audio, and TechRadar advised using a good sound system. Its stories include a mysterious puppet show, an urban exploration that goes wrong, and a sound engineer following instructions from their father.

Hunting Matthew Nichols will be released on Shudder worldwide on October 31. Filmed partly in a found-footage documentary style, it follows a woman documenting her brother's disappearance and uncovering unsettling things. TechRadar said fans of supernatural stories such as The Blair Witch Project may enjoy it and noted it is Markian Tarasiuk's directorial debut.
