Shure Releases MV6 Gen 2 USB Microphone With Adjustable Audio Controls and White Finish

Shure said the new MV6 USB Gaming Microphone Gen 2 was largely designed in response to feedback it received about the original MV6, with the aim of giving users more control over the microphone's automated audio features.

The hardware stays close to the first version. The MV6 Gen 2 keeps the base designed to minimize vibrations, the option to mount it on a boom arm, a 3.5mm headphone jack for monitoring and a mute button. The visible changes are the white color option and a longer 2-meter USB-C cable, which Shure says should make the microphone usable in more desk layouts.

The larger changes are in software. The original microphone offered a denoiser and automatic volume leveling; the Gen 2 lets users set how loud their voice sits in the audio mix and how quickly the microphone reacts to changes in volume. The new real-time denoiser is likewise adjustable, with a slider that controls how much background noise, such as fans and keyboards, is picked up.

All settings, including customizable EQ and microphone presets for speech, singing and instruments, are adjusted in Shure's free Motiv app. The microphone works across platforms: it is compatible with Mac, PC and Android over its USB-C cable, and with iPhone and iPad through MFI certification from Apple.

At $169, the MV6 Gen 2 is slightly more expensive than the recently announced Logitech Yeti 2, Engadget said, but it remains an option for buyers who want a more straightforward audio setup. It is available from Shure and authorized retailers.
