SK Biopharm buys license for epilepsy drug candidate from U.S. firm

SK Biopharmaceuticals has signed a licensing-in agreement worth about 1.9 trillion won ($795 million) with a U.S. company for an epilepsy drug candidate.

Under the deal, SK Biopharm will own exclusive licenses to Opakalim and Kv7 potassium channel activator compound from Biohaven Bioscience Ireland Ltd., the filing read. SK Biopharm plans to pay 553.2 billion won upfront as down payment and deliver the rest of the amount in phases after the deal is closed.

Terms of the contract will run for 10 years after the product's launch, or until the latest of the following: the expiration of the patent or the expiration of exclusive licensing rights, the filing said.
