Sling TV Ends Sling Passes, Its Day and Week Cable Passes
Sling TV has stopped selling Sling Passes, the day, weekend and week-long passes that let viewers watch channels such as ESPN and CNN without a monthly subscription, according to The Desk.
The feature was announced last year and offered three ways to buy a slice of live cable programming: a one-day pass, a weekend pass and a week-long pass. The passes were pitched as a way to watch channels such as ESPN and CNN without committing to a monthly subscription. They are no longer available.
Soon after the passes launched, Disney and Warner Bros. Discovery sued Sling TV over the feature. A federal judge ruled against Disney's request for a preliminary injunction, which would have blocked Sling Passes while the case proceeded.
Sling TV addressed the shutdown in the statement on its website. "Sling was built to give our customers the ultimate control over their entertainment, and Sling Passes delivered on that promise for millions," the company said. "Though Sling Passes are no longer available, we look forward to continuing to innovate and showing our customers new ways to experience the content they love."
The statement did not give a reason for ending the passes. The Desk reported that the same notice was sent directly to customers.
