Snapseed Teardown Reveals Unreleased Collage Tool With Layers and QR Sharing

Android Authority said it dug into Snapseed 4.1.9 and found an in-development collage-creator interface. The discovery follows strings for a collage-making tool that the publication found in July. Snapseed, which is run by Google, brought its 4.0 update to Android before these features appeared in the teardown.

The collage interface includes aspect ratios for 1:1 Square, 4:5 Post, 9:16 Story, 16:9 Wide, 3:4, 4:3 and 5:4. Grid configurations include Center Square, 1+2, 1+3, 2+1, 2 Column, 3 Column, 2 Stack, 3 Stack and others. A canvas formatting page lets users change the background pattern, adjust spacing and turn on a "Snap to grid" toggle.

In the slides interface, users can move slides left or right, duplicate them or remove them. A Connected Slide feature would let users merge or disconnect slides, allowing multiple collages or carousels within the same project. Android Authority described the interface as a place to create several collages or carousels in one project.

The Layers option would let users add photos, text, stickers or another slide. Users could swap layers, lock them to prevent accidental changes, reorder them, hide them, remove them, duplicate them or rotate them 90 degrees. Created templates could be saved for later use.

A masking option would allow cropping images in Rectangle or Radial shapes, with a slider for corner radius. Advanced layer styling options would modify border color and width, control opacity and offer multiple blend modes. Sliders for shadow blur, distance and opacity are also present.

A color selection tool would accept Hex code inputs. It would also let users save or manage custom colors and adjust luminance with a slider. A textures menu would offer preset textures that can be modified, and a Randomize button would change texture settings.

Templates could be shared by QR code, which others could scan to use the template, Android Authority said. The QR code references a separate "Copy link" option, but the publication did not see that option in the unofficial preview. Users could save a project, export all or part of the collage pictures, or save the project as a copy. They could also remove the project entirely, and common actions such as reset and undo/redo would be available.

Android Authority said most of the collage-making tool looks ready for primetime, but it could not say when the Google-run app will roll out the updates. Based on the early look, the publication said Snapseed is aiming to become the only Android app needed to create elaborate collages from scratch.
