Some Samsung Galaxy users report Google Messages RCS issues after Smart Switch, report says

Some Google Messages users, particularly on Samsung Galaxy phones, are unable to connect to RCS after using Smart Switch. Google says corrupted cache files may be responsible.

RCS is an upgraded version of SMS that adds features such as encryption, read receipts and media support. It is one of the main draws of Google Messages, and interruptions in connectivity can leave users unable to send or receive messages through the richer protocol.

In a Reddit thread cited by Android Authority, a user described moving from a Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 to a Galaxy Z Fold 8 and being unable to connect to RCS, reportedly seeing error code 3100. A Google representative responded with a potential remedy and said the issue may stem from corrupted cache files that transferred during the Smart Switch migration.

The Android Authority report says multiple remedies are currently floating around in response to the complaints, but not all of them appear to be effective. The article points to Smart Switch as a possible trigger, while Google's response suggests corrupted cache files may be the underlying cause, leaving users to test various workarounds without a confirmed single fix.
