Sony Bravia 9 II Is TechRadar's Best Mini-LED TV of 2026, but Price Draws Scrutiny
TechRadar rates Sony Bravia 9 II the best mini-LED TV of 2026 for OLED-like contrast, but flags its high price.
The review said the Bravia 9 II, which Sony markets as True RGB LED, improves on the step-down Bravia 7 II in picture quality, sound and gaming. RGB televisions remain in their infancy, TechRadar said, and the Bravia 9 II is the RGB model it has tested that comes closest to toppling OLED.
Picture quality is the set's main strength, according to the review. TechRadar said the TV produces vibrant but accurate colors, fluid motion for sports and, with its matte anti-glare screen, works well in bright rooms. It said contrast and dark-tone reproduction are arguably the best it has seen from a backlit TV. The review also found that viewing angles could be better and that some blooming appears when the TV is viewed off-center.
TechRadar measured high brightness in its lab tests. In HDR Filmmaker Mode, the Bravia 9 II reached 4,416 nits on a 10% window and 974 nits fullscreen; in HDR Standard Mode it measured 4,044 nits and 903 nits. For comparison, the review listed the Samsung R95H at 1,977 nits and 612 nits in HDR Filmmaker Mode and the Sony Bravia 7 II at 1,114 nits and 829 nits. SDR Filmmaker Mode measurements were 105 nits on a 10% window and 110 nits fullscreen.
The built-in sound was described as strong overall, with detailed speakers, a good sense of space and clear speech. TechRadar said bass and low-end output were lacking and that the set did not deliver the power it expected, so cinephiles may still want a soundbar. Gaming performance was another positive: TechRadar said the TV has a comprehensive set of gaming features and handles fast-paced games well, though only two of its four HDMI ports are HDMI 2.1.
The main drawback is price. The 65-inch model TechRadar tested launched at $3,599.99 / £3,499.99 / AU$5,995, about $500 / £500 / AU$750-1,000 more than rival OLEDs and other RGB TVs, the review said. Sony released the Bravia 9 II in August 2026 in 65-, 75-, 85- and 115-inch sizes. The 75-inch is priced at $4,599.99 / £4,299.99 / AU$7,495; the 85-inch at $6,499.99 / £5,499.99 / AU$9,995; and the 115-inch at $30,999.99 / £22,999.99 / AU$44,995. TechRadar said US and UK prices were unchanged at the time of writing in October 2026, while Australian prices for the 65- to 85-inch models had dropped, with the 65-inch at AU$4,795.
The review said Sony does not often discount its TVs, making the Bravia 9 II poor value compared with some rivals despite its performance. The set uses an RGB LED panel with a 120Hz refresh rate, supports Dolby Vision, HDR10 and HLG, and includes Dolby Atmos and DTS:X audio support. It runs Google TV, has four HDMI ports, two of them HDMI 2.1, and in the US has an ATSC 1.0 tuner. TechRadar concluded that, price aside, the Bravia 9 II is one seriously good TV.
Editor's Summary
TechRadar's review places the Sony Bravia 9 II at the top of the mini-LED TVs it has tested in 2026, with measured brightness and contrast that approach OLED performance. The set's premium price, limited HDMI 2.1 ports and some off-angle blooming remain trade-offs. Sony's flagship RGB LED model will test whether buyers will pay a premium for picture quality that rivals OLED.
