Sony Trims Headphone Prices Ahead of Amazon's October Prime Day
Sony has already cut prices on several headphone models on Amazon a day before its October Prime Day event, including the month-old WH-CH730N at $148 and the on-ear WH-CH530 at $58, according to TechRadar.
The WH-CH730N, an over-ear noise-cancelling pair unveiled at the start of September, is listed at $148, down $30 from $179. TechRadar reports that the model, which sits just below Sony's flagship 1000X line, had not been discounted before. The cheaper on-ear WH-CH530 is down $11, from $69.99 to $58, a fall of roughly 20%. That model does not offer active noise cancellation. TechRadar adds that only the black model is officially reduced.
Neither product has been reviewed by TechRadar yet because of how recently they were released. The outlet said it has previously rated members of Sony's over-ear family highly, often placing them at the top of their market segment, and sees no reason for the new models to differ.
Other Sony headphones also carry temporary price cuts. The predecessor of the WH-CH530 is down to $33, a set TechRadar described as an already strong budget option in its earlier review of the WH-CH520. A past-generation flagship pair is back at $198, half its $399 launch price, and received a perfect score in TechRadar's Sony WH-1000XM5 review. The same model is described as a return to its lowest price seen, after launching at $399.
TechRadar additionally lists another older Sony headphone, without active noise cancellation and recently superseded by a newer set, at a 53% discount that it describes as a return to the lowest price seen for that model.
The price cuts arrive as Amazon prepares to open its October sales event, which TechRadar notes had been scheduled to start a day after the Sony discounts went live. In the outlet's guide to noise-cancelling headphones, the Sony WH-1000XM6 is listed as the best overall pick, the Bose QuietComfort Headphones as the best mid-range option, the 1More Sonoflow Pro HQ51 as the best under $100 and the Soundcore Q30 as the best under $60.
