Sony Unveils PlayStation Pulse Edge and Pulse Headsets for Early Next Year

Sony unveiled two new PlayStation Pulse headsets, launching early next year with native PS Portal support and no pricing yet.

The higher-end PlayStation Pulse Edge is built around custom planar magnetic drivers that Sony describes as delivering 'studio-inspired' sound, with eight magnets under the hood. It includes a detachable boom microphone with AI noise rejection, a USB Type-C adapter and a premium carrying case. The headset also offers built-in volume controls that integrate with the console's operating system, a slider for balancing game audio and chat, and active noise cancellation.

The standard PlayStation Pulse is positioned as a more entry-level option. It reduces the number of driver magnets to four, which TechRadar said likely means less bass and reduced clarity. It also drops the boom microphone in favor of an integrated microphone, loses the game audio and chat balance feature, lacks active noise cancellation and does not come with a carrying case.

Both models will connect to the PlayStation Portal out of the box through native PlayStation Link compatibility, according to TechRadar. That gives the new headsets a direct link to Sony's handheld streaming device without requiring additional adapters for basic use.

Pricing remains the biggest unknown. Sony did not provide any pricing information on the official PlayStation Blog, TechRadar reported, making it difficult to judge whether the refreshed line will offer good value. TechRadar noted that the market already includes many strong headsets from third-party brands such as SteelSeries and Corsair.

The Pulse Edge and Pulse are intended to supersede the PlayStation Pulse Elite, which was released in 2024. Sony has not yet said exactly when the new headsets will launch beyond early next year, and it has not detailed regional availability or preorder timing.
