South Korean Papers Lead With AI Hacking in Finance, North Korea Missile Launch

South Korean papers on Oct. 5 led with AI hacking in finance and North Korea's missile launch after Kim refused talks with Seoul.

Korean-language dailies carried a cluster of headlines on the AI hacking. Kyunghyang Shinmun said South Korean finance was infiltrated by a two-month-old Chinese AI. Kookmin Daily reported that 6,400 were exposed by 'AI hacking' and that big firms were at risk. Segye Times said 'AI hacking' infiltrated the finance sector, while Chosun Ilbo said AI hacking spread across South Korea's financial sector. JoongAng Ilbo described an 'AI hacking shock as allies turn into adversaries.' Hankyoreh said the financial sector was on high alert as AI attacks hit multiple institutions. Hankook Ilbo said the financial sector was breached by AI hackers despite a known threat. Maeil Business Newspaper reported that a lone AI hacker rocked South Korean finance. Korea Economic Daily called it unprecedented AI hacking hitting South Korea's nonbank financial sector. Korea JoongAng Daily, an English-language paper, said AI hacks exposed cracks in Korea's financial defenses.

On North Korea, Donga Ilbo reported that North Korean leader Kim fired a ballistic missile a day after refusing talks with South Korea. Seoul Shinmun reported that Kim oversaw a hypersonic missile launch after refusing a talk proposal. The two headlines differed in describing the weapon, with one referring to a ballistic missile and the other to a hypersonic missile.

The Yonhap roundup listed the headlines from Korean-language dailies and English-language dailies but did not provide additional reporting beyond the headline lines.
