SpaceX in Talks to Borrow $40 Billion for Nvidia Chips, Bloomberg Reports

Bloomberg reports SpaceX is negotiating a $40 billion loan to buy Nvidia chips, among the largest debt financings for the AI buildout. Oil rose as traders weighed higher Strait of Hormuz flows against stepped-up Iranian attacks on vessels, and the Dutch state plans to cut its ABN Amro stake.

Bloomberg, which reported the talks on its Daybreak Europe program, did not disclose the lenders involved or the terms under discussion. The borrowing would be used to purchase Nvidia's chips, the processors that underpin most large-scale AI training and inference work.

Oil prices rose as traders weighed increased flows through the Strait of Hormuz against a pickup in Iranian attacks against vessels in the waterway, Bloomberg reported. The two forces pulled in opposite directions during the session, with the added shipping volume and the heightened risk to ships both feeding into crude pricing.

Separately, the Dutch government plans to reduce its investment vehicle's holding in ABN Amro from 20.7% to 10.5%, cutting the state's position in the bank by roughly half. Marguerite Bérard, ABN Amro's chief executive, appeared as a guest on the program.

The program also issued a correction to a graphic shown at 29:47, clarifying that the guest had been referring to small and medium-sized enterprises.

The three items reflect a market focused on the capital demands of AI infrastructure, the supply risk attached to Middle East shipping lanes, and the continuing retreat of European governments from bank stakes taken during the financial crisis. Bloomberg did not provide further detail on the timing of the SpaceX financing or on when the Dutch stake sale would be carried out.
