Spotify brings AI-powered Running Mode to Android in multiple markets
Spotify has launched its AI-powered Running Mode on Android in the US, Canada, the UK and other markets, letting Premium users generate custom running playlists.
Android users can choose from 25 presets covering different workout types and music genres, then further customize the playlist by adjusting workout duration, whether to enable beat matching to hit a specific pace, and whether audio cues are on or off, Engadget said. Android Authority adds that users can also customize music discovery and beats per minute, with options for familiar songs, new music and optional audio coaching. The feature requires a Spotify Premium subscription, according to Android Authority.
Running Mode revives and expands on Spotify's earlier running experiment from 2018, Engadget reported. The launch is part of Spotify's broader push into fitness. In January 2026, Spotify began offering AI-powered Prompted Playlists, and in April the company announced a partnership with Peloton and said workout-focused playlist requests were among the most common prompts it received, Engadget noted.
