Spotify Legal Action Forces SpotiFLAC Developer to Pull Public GitHub Repositories
Spotify legal reps forced SpotiFLAC's developer to remove public GitHub repos for SpotiFLAC and SpotiFLAC Next.
The developer said they received a legal notice from Spotify's representatives and then took down the public repositories for both projects. Existing SpotiFLAC installations still work, but the original app will no longer receive updates, according to the report. SpotiFLAC Next will continue to be maintained.
The developer is already moving forward with new projects, including Mornye for mobile and Stream Hoarder for desktop.
SpotiFLAC had used Spotify's music catalog to help users find and download songs as lossless audio files from other streaming services, according to Android Authority. The tool served listeners who want to keep favorite tracks offline as actual files rather than rely on a streaming subscription. The report noted that Spotify may have finally embraced lossless audio for Premium subscribers, but some music lovers still prefer offline files.
