A Reddit user claims Spotify's shuffle repeated an exact 72-song sequence on consecutive days, raising doubts about the true randomness of the feature.

The findings indicate that Spotify might be aggressively caching queues or reusing shuffle seeds rather than properly re-randomizing playlists. Driftking_88 also reported observing smaller repeated blocks, including an instance where 27 of 30 upcoming songs matched an earlier queue. The user had started tracking listening history after noticing they could reliably predict upcoming tracks, pulling extended streaming history and cross-referencing timestamps, track IDs, playlist context, and other data.

Longstanding user complaints about Spotify's shuffle have often been dismissed as confirmation bias. This detailed account, however, provides a concrete example that could fuel further scrutiny of the streaming giant's playback algorithm.
