Square launches AI-powered ordering kiosk with conversational voice
Square is launching the Square Kiosk, a 21.5-inch touchscreen ordering device with a conversational AI voice layer. It costs $1,999 for Plus or Premium subscribers, plus a $99 monthly per-device software fee.
Square describes the device as having a large pill shape. Its screen measures 21.5 inches. The company says the kiosk includes an "agentic, conversational voice layer" that "fully understands a seller's menu and listens and responds in real time, enabling customers to order the way they'd naturally talk to staff." While speaking with the AI agent, customers can ask questions and request modifications and substitutions.
Square says the kiosk can greet customers as they approach, using presence detection to recognize when someone is in front of the device. For payment, it offers a contactless reader and a card slot.
The pricing structure ties the hardware to Square's subscription tiers: the $1,999 price applies to businesses on Square Plus or Premium, and the monthly software charge is assessed per device. The kiosk is the company's latest addition to its hardware line.
