SSPAI Editors Share Verdicts on Bathroom Organizer, Wooden Bookend and Glucose Monitor
In SSPAI's Sept. 3 'New Stuff' column, editors shared their experiences with three recent purchases — a bathroom organizer, a wooden bookend/CD holder and a glucose monitor — highlighting pros and cons.
Shenme Chen said he bought the bathroom storage system because he had chosen a plain mirror without a cabinet, leaving his counter cluttered with toothbrushes, cleansers, a hairdryer and tissue boxes. He liked that the product was not a fixed shelf but a rod with movable baskets and holders, allowing him to adjust positions and add accessories later. Dark wood-grained rod and metal baskets matched his cream-colored wall and white basin, and raising items from the counter to the wall made cleaning easier, he said. His main criticism was low cost-effectiveness: similar solutions on the market all had similar prices, and adding accessories eventually drove the total cost well above that of an ordinary bathroom shelf. He said he no longer regretted forgoing a mirrored cabinet for looks.
Lotta said she bought the 'Three Hills' wooden bookend, priced at about 80 yuan, to store books and CDs in a 40-cm-deep cabinet while keeping the categories separated. She said she passed over many racks because their fixed compartments could not fit her CDs of varying heights and thicknesses, and steel holders might scratch her inexpensive cabinet. The wooden bookend had a playful but not overpowering shape, two movable dividers for classification, and supports on both sides, which she found more convenient than slanted bookends when taking items out. The workmanship was not delicate, but the surfaces were smooth; the main defect was its length at only about 30 cm, limiting how many CDs it could hold.
Beixiao said he bought the Yuyue Anytime 4 Pro continuous glucose monitor, in a pack of two for 151.18 yuan, after feeling drowsy after carbohydrate-heavy meals and being concerned about heredity and weight. The system comprises a disposable sensor inserted under the skin and a rechargeable transmitter that sends readings to a phone app. He described the insertion as fast and painless, although the adhesive tape sometimes itched. The app, available only in the Chinese App Store, records glucose every three minutes for 15 days and shows trends over periods from three to twenty-four hours; it can also log meals and share data with family. In the first five days, his readings were normal, but he observed that eating vegetables and meat first helped flatten glucose spikes, a large bowl of rice still raised his glucose, alcohol was not good for his readings, and outdoor exercise was helpful.
