STEPX Launches Neo, First Large-Model-Native Agent Phone, at 3,999 Yuan
STEPX released STEPX Neo, its first large-model-native agent phone, in Shanghai on Oct. 13, 2026, with Step AOS 1.0, personal agent Amoo and a 3,999 yuan full-stack price.
STEPX describes Neo as built around human-machine symbiosis and a software-hardware-model trinity. Step AOS 1.0 was built from scratch for agents, integrating long-term memory, task scheduling and security into the system layer. It has a dual-entry interface: a right swipe opens Amoo's system-level space, while a left swipe returns to the conventional home screen. A dual-domain memory records personal information, scenarios and preferences in a user domain, and accumulates knowledge, methods and experience in an agent domain. System-level atomic capabilities can be called directly by Amoo. The security architecture is described as trustworthy, visible, controllable and reversible.
The hardware includes a six-microphone array, a low-power audio sensing chip and the Whisper 1.0 pickup algorithm. A main screen serves human-machine interaction, while an independent MiniLED dot-matrix rear screen becomes the agent's expression space and shows Amoo's status. In a hands-on review, QbitAI said the rear screen displays states such as thinking, Tool Call and output, and a side AI key opens an input box with a short press and voice intercom with a long press. The design uses a retro-futuristic aesthetic. The back panel combines transparent mechanical texture with five easter eggs: 42, user_potential, Turing test binary, a deep blue checkerboard and the Transformer architecture, tracing a history of AI exploration.
The model system uses edge-cloud collaboration. The edge model quickly handles simple commands such as system settings and alarms, and some local operations can run without a network. For complex needs such as information queries, single-app tasks and multi-app collaboration, the cloud model handles task planning and decomposition, after which the edge side executes and delivers results.
For creators, STEPX launched Step Studio, an AI terminal-native integrated development environment. Creators can use natural language to generate AI apps, games, agents and Skills. STEPX opens model, system, hardware and ecosystem capabilities. System-level atomic capabilities, sensors, the camera and the MiniLED rear screen can participate in creation, and MCP and A2A protocols connect external services and professional agents. At the event, STEPX and Bilibili showed results from the STEPX Rhapsody Plan. Creator @Shenqi Ayu Ayu developed the AYU FLYING HUB flight monitoring and decision system for a self-made flying skateboard, with Amoo participating in plan analysis, posture adjustment and training review. Creator @Feiniu Juanbudong connected a brain-computer interface to STEPX Neo and developed a mind-speaking Skill to help people with expression difficulties convey emotional states.
Amoo has partnerships with nearly 100 companies or products, including Alipay, Tencent, Ctrip, Didi, CapCut, Amap and Meituan, covering local life, travel, office efficiency and content creation. With Alipay, STEPX is building a system-level agent solution and a customized AI payment full-stack, and it is the first terminal maker to access Alipay Vibe Pay. With user authorization, Amoo can call Alipay's life services. Tencent products in the first batch include WorkBuddy, WeCom and WeChat Reading. The CapCut cooperation uses A2A collaboration with CapCut Assistant for one-sentence auto video, inspiration recommendations and conversational editing.
The Pioneer Edition is priced at 3,999 yuan in carbon black and silicon silver. Buyers receive a 12-month STEPX Token Plan with 100 billion tokens per month. STEPX also launched the Amoo Growth Plan: the first 10,000 qualified users will receive a Starry Sea Ticket and can exchange STEPX Neo for any new STEPX terminal at 0 yuan within five years, with details on the product page. STEPX said it will keep updating the system and expanding task scenarios after launch.
Security is handled through a dedicated Agent Security module in system settings, where users can manage Amoo-related permissions and view visualized Tool Call records. STEPX describes the security base as trustworthy, with cloud data desensitized and phone numbers, precise location and sensitive multimodal images not run without safeguards; visible, with all tool calls, permission requests and execution chains leaving traces; controllable, with high-risk nodes such as deletion, payment and cross-app operations requiring secondary confirmation and authorization boundaries revocable; and reversible, with accidentally deleted photos, files, notes or contacts recoverable stepwise or as a whole. For ecosystem security, publishers must complete real-name verification consistent with their phone number, and uploads are blocked if packages contain .env files, key files, databases, logs or USER.md with runtime privacy.
QbitAI's hands-on review said Step AOS supports Loop execution and autonomous Tool Call and can call Skills and MCP tools, with capabilities close to desktop Codex or Claude Code but optimized for consumers. A bottom foldable panel opens a system-level Agent task navigation bar showing long-chain background tasks and task history. Amoo asks for confirmation when a step needs approval and pushes completed results to the user. The review also said Amoo can integrate tools such as Feishu CLI to create scheduled tasks and sync them to a calendar, and that Step Studio can build apps and push them to the phone.
