Strava adds plain-language route search, subscriber audio navigation coming soon

Strava has added plain-language route search, expanded route options and route cards with real photos and activity data, and says subscriber-only turn-by-turn audio navigation is coming soon.

In the Maps tab, users can now search for routes and points of interest with plain language rather than being limited to specific keywords, according to the report. A search can describe what the user wants, such as "a bike path near a lake." Strava has also expanded route selection and says the routes are "better curated."

Route cards now show real photos and activity data from other users, giving Strava users more information about what to expect before they head out. The report said Strava also announced a better offline experience as part of the update, without giving further details on how offline access has changed.

The turn-by-turn audio navigation feature was announced as "coming soon" and will be for subscribers only. Strava’s existing map tools show how well-traveled routes are and provide terrain visualizations, features the company offers for people who explore and exercise outdoors.
