Strava sync error hits Garmin, Galaxy and Apple watches as Samsung widens SmartTag 3 support

Garmin, Galaxy and Apple watch owners reported being unable to sync workouts to Strava on October 5, 2026, with the cause still unclear. Separately, Samsung said its new SmartTag 3 tracker will work with iPhones and other Android phones.

The publication said it had seen multiple reports on Reddit about the syncing problem, and that most of them came from Garmin owners. Complaints from owners of Galaxy and Apple devices were also spotted. The failure reportedly persisted whether users went through the Samsung Health app or through Health Connect. Android Authority said the cause of the issue was not clear and that it had asked Strava for comment.

Strava normally uploads recorded runs, swims and rides automatically to a user's profile once a watch is paired with the app, so the workout data does not have to be transferred by hand.

Separately, Samsung said its newly announced SmartTag 3 tracker will work with iPhones as well as with Android phones outside its own Galaxy line, widening device support beyond what earlier generations offered. The tracker was introduced last week alongside the Galaxy Tab S12 Plus and Galaxy Tab S12 Ultra tablets.

Earlier SmartTag models supported tracking only through Galaxy phones. The SmartTag2, for example, worked with the Galaxy S24, Galaxy S25, Galaxy S26, Galaxy Z Fold, Galaxy Z Flip and Galaxy A series handsets running the latest version of the SmartThings app, which left owners of other phones without official support. Samsung now says the SmartTag 3 formally extends monitoring to iOS devices and that other Android models are getting access as well.
