Strava Updates Route Planning and Strength Training Tools
Strava has improved route discovery, mapping and offline tools, following October additions of coach-designed strength workouts, TechRadar reported.
The route-planning update makes search more intuitive and allows it to understand prompts written "in your own words," according to the press release. More routes are available, offline maps are simpler to use and route cards have a new design.
Strava said paying subscribers will soon be able to receive hands-free, turn-by-turn audio directions. Community tagging of points of interest is planned for the future, and users will also be able to find new routes on the web as well as in the app. TechRadar reported that these features are not yet available and that Strava described them as "coming soon."
The mapping changes follow a separate October update that brought strength workouts designed by fitness coaches to the app. Subscribers can see animated guidance for strength exercises and live set and rep tracking as a workout progresses. Free users receive a sample workout at no cost, and Strava plans to add more workout series and new ways to track strength workouts before the end of 2026.
TechRadar reported that the updates cover walking, hiking and strength training in addition to running and cycling. Strava has traditionally been associated with runners and cyclists, and the new tools add to the activities the app supports.
