Survey: Nearly Half of Readers Welcome Play Store's Third-Party App Store Integration

An Android Authority survey finds 47% of readers welcome Google Play Store's integration of third-party app stores, while 34% worry it will be a hassle.

The survey, which drew just under 2,000 votes, asked readers whether they looked forward to the integration. Some 47% of respondents voted "I love more choice," indicating appreciation for Google's move. However, 34% said they were worried that combing through these new products would be a hassle, and just under 20% said they were unsure but would not have to wait long to experience the change.

Commenters offered divergent takes. One reader, ihtfp69, argued that the move is not really pro-consumer but rather benefits the industry, saying: "It’s only a win for Epic Games and other developers. It’s definitely not a win for consumers."

Another commenter, donhallmark1, took a different stance on the consolidation of app stores: "I will never intentionally download one of these stores. If an app doesn’t come from Google Play I don’t need it."

The integration is part of a series of Play Store changes this year, including Google's rollout of a sideloading crackdown for apps sourced outside the Store. Whether the move will change how consumers interact with third-party apps remains to be seen.
