Suunto May Join Screenless Fitness Tracker Market With UAE-Certified Band
Suunto may be preparing a screenless tracker after a UAE certification; it appears larger than Fitbit Air and close to WHOOP in size.
The report, citing Wearable Fans, said the device was certified by the UAE’s Telecommunications and Digital Government Regulatory Authority. The filing also gives a look at the tracker’s design and likely features, according to Android Authority. The publication said the Suunto tracker appears larger than the Fitbit Air and is close in size to the WHOOP band.
The filing indicates Suunto may soon join the ranks of companies making screenless fitness trackers, Android Authority reported. Suunto is known for premium, sports-oriented smartwatches with advanced training metrics. Its ambassadors include several professional ultramarathoners and athletes, according to the report.
The screenless fitness tracker market is expanding. Many manufacturers are making subscription-free devices that resemble the WHOOP band, while others are trying to capitalize on Google’s entry into the segment with the Fitbit Air earlier this year, Android Authority reported. Apple is also reportedly working on a screenless tracker.
For Suunto, the certification points to a possible product in a category attracting established wearable companies and new entrants. The filing reported by Wearable Fans offers a look at the device’s design and likely features, Android Authority said.
