TCL P80 Ultra debuts with AMOLED NXTPAPER display and strong specs

TCL's new P80 Ultra leads the P80 Series with an AMOLED NXTPAPER screen and strong specs, Android Authority reports.

The 6.83-inch panel has 447 pixels per inch, roughly 16% more than the Samsung A57's 385PPI screen, and reaches a peak brightness of 3,200 nits compared with 1,900 nits on the A57. It also offers a 120Hz refresh rate, up to 100% DCI-P3 color coverage and side bezels down to 1.38mm. Under the hood, the P80 Ultra uses the 4nm MediaTek Dimensity 7400 Elite, 8GB of RAM, up to 16GB of RAM Expansion and up to 512GB of storage. A 5,800mAh battery pairs with 45W Super Fast Charging.

Android Authority describes the camera as giving the Ultra an edge over rivals, without detailing its specifications. The phone's ultra-slim design was developed with materials and CMF expert Chris Lefteri, and its colors — Sunlit Gold, Midnight Blue and Burgundy — were refined through consumer testing in cities worldwide. The phone also includes Google Gemini, Circle to Search and AI Smart Translator, with TCL promising up to four OS upgrades and seven years of security updates.

The Ultra and the P80 Pro add NXTPAPER, which uses a hardware-based Natural Soft-light System, Nano Crystal Shield Glass and 24-hour Proactive Eye Comfort Technology. The display includes nano-etched anti-glare treatment, hardware-level low-blue-light and flicker-free dimming, and up to 95% circular polarization, making the screen readable outdoors and through polarized sunglasses. A dedicated NXTPAPER Key switches between Paper Mode, with four paper-like styles, and Max Ink Mode for a distraction-free black-and-white interface. Android Authority notes that the P80 Ultra is the first smartphone to combine NXTPAPER with an AMOLED display.

The P80 Pro offers the same display technology, and its 5,800mAh battery is larger than the Samsung A37's 5,000mAh cell. The standard P80 pairs a 1.5K display with 45W charging, compared with FHD resolution and 25W charging on the Samsung A27, and is 22g lighter. Android Authority says the NXTPAPER experience doesn't require sacrificing core hardware, and that the series makes a persuasive case based on conventional specs alone.
