TCL unveils OLED NXTPAPER P80 phones and launches budget NXTPAPER tablet in US

At IFA 2026, TCL unveiled P80 phones with first OLED NXTPAPER screens and launched a budget NXTPAPER tablet in the US.

According to The Verge, the P80 Ultra and P80 Pro share a 6.83-inch OLED NXTPAPER panel with 1.5K resolution, a 120Hz refresh rate, and up to 3,200 nits of peak brightness. NXTPAPER uses a coating that cuts glare and reflections, and a dedicated NXTPAPER key switches the phones into Max Ink Mode, a monochrome interface designed to resemble an E-Ink display. TCL claims the mode can stretch the P80 Ultra’s 5,800mAh battery to seven days of reading or up to 26 days of standby.

The P80 Ultra is powered by a MediaTek Dimensity 7400 Elite with 8GB of RAM and up to 512GB of storage, along with 45W wired charging. Its camera system includes a 50MP main sensor, an 8MP ultrawide, and a 50MP 3x telephoto. The P80 Pro keeps most of the same specs but drops the telephoto to a dual rear setup. The regular P80 is different: it has an OLED display but no NXTPAPER coating, and it has a 5,000mAh battery.

All three phones run Android 16. TCL has promised four years of OS updates and seven years of security patches for the P80 Ultra and Pro, while the P80 gets one fewer Android version update, according to The Verge.

Pricing starts at €349 (about $400) for the P80, €429 (about $500) for the P80 Pro, and €549 (about $635) for the P80 Ultra. The phones launch in Europe on Sept. 3, with Latin America to follow in October and the US “a bit later,” TCL said in a press briefing covered by The Verge.

In the US, Android Authority reports that the TCL Tab A1 NXTPAPER is now available on Amazon and TCL’s website at a promotional price of $249.99, down from a recommended $299.99. The budget tablet has an 11-inch NXTPAPER display with a 2,112 by 1,320 resolution and 90Hz refresh rate, plus an Ink Paper Mode that mimics E-Ink. It runs on a MediaTek Helio G100 chip with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of expandable storage, and includes an 8,000mAh battery with 20W charging, an 8MP rear camera, a 5MP selfie camera, four speakers, an IP54 rating, and a bundled flip case and stylus.

Android Authority also reported that the tablet’s US launch follows last month’s arrival of the larger Tab A1 Plus NXTPAPER, which has a 12.2-inch screen, a Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 chip, 256GB of storage, and a 10,000mAh battery.
