Technics SL-1200 55th Anniversary Edition adds gold trim, launch set for September
Technics has unveiled a 55th anniversary SL-1200 turntable with gold trim, based on MK7. Full launch in September.
According to TechRadar, the new model is based on the current SL-1200 MK7 platform. It retains standard features such as an aluminum platter, stylus-illuminator LED, Universal Static Balance tonearm, pitch adjustment dial, and phono output. The main change is cosmetic: gold accents on the tonearm base, knobs, and buttons, a gold-rimmed platter, a gold-anodised tonearm, and a gold slip mat.
In addition to a fully gold-colored version, the anniversary edition will be offered in blue, black, white, red, green, and gray models. TechRadar notes that Technics has not yet revealed the price, but it is expected to be higher than the current MK7, which sells for $1,200 / £849 / AU$1,699.
The original SL-1200 launched in late 1972 and has become a staple in hip-hop and DJ culture. Although the brand calls this a 55th anniversary model, TechRadar points out that 2026 marks only 54 years since the original release. Technics previously issued a Master Edition last year with some gold accents, but the new edition features significantly more gold.
