TechRadar Critic Backs 'The Creep Tapes' Season 3 and 'Silent Hill: Townfall', Tells Viewers to Skip Shudder's 'Parasomnia'

The Creep Tapes season 3, available on Shudder and AMC+, features Mark Duplass returning to the found footage series after appearing in Backrooms this year, according to the review. Buglass wrote that the new season puts the killer alter ego Peachfuzz front and center and stays close to Josef, Duplass's character, showing much of the action from his point of view. She described it as an effective third season that may stay with viewers for a long time, and suggested that newcomers watch the first two Creep films, which are on Prime Video in the US and Netflix in the UK.

Parasomnia, a Shudder original, follows a woman who suffers recurring night terrors, with terrible events occurring around her in the real world each time they strike. Buglass said the premise was interesting but that the film leans too heavily on jump scares and predictable narrative turns across its 85-minute runtime. She noted that its short length may still tempt some viewers to try it, or to look at other new Shudder releases instead.

Silent Hill: Townfall, playable on PS5 and PC, is a spin-off starring Jovan Adepo of Welcome to Derry and set in the coastal town of St. Amelia. Buglass said the game sits apart from the main Silent Hill storyline, so characters such as Pyramid Head do not appear; players instead take the role of a newcomer named Simon in a slow-burn narrative built around first-person exploration. She reported a few early glitches, including a map that failed to load, but said she settled into the game and was especially impressed by its central location, modeled on a quiet Scottish town. The game is short enough to finish over a weekend, and she recommended it.

September brought new entries in both the Creep and Silent Hill franchises alongside a slate of Shudder originals, which Buglass said left her with a wide range of choices for the month's recommendations. Her column, Scream or Skip, is intended to help readers spend less time scrolling and more time watching films and television or playing games.
