TechRadar Flags Philips Hue Essential Four-Pack as Prime Day's Only Standout Hue Deal
TechRadar reports that a four-pack of Philips Hue Essential smart bulbs is $44.97 for Prime Day, the sale's only standout Hue deal, at just over $11 per bulb.
The report said the author, TechRadar's Homes Editor, is a fan of Philips Hue smart lights and was initially pleased to see a large selection of bulbs and lamps discounted for Prime Day. After reviewing the discounts, she found almost every product had been cheaper before. The four-pack of Hue Essential bulbs was the exception.
Philips Hue Essential series launched as an affordable entry to smart lighting, according to the report. The standard white and color bulbs were described as impressive even at full price. TechRadar compared one Essential bulb with a full-price Philips Hue White & Color Ambiance bulb. The only real difference the author found was that the Essential bulb cannot dim as low. Brightness and color reproduction were pretty much even between the two, the report said.
At the Prime Day price, each Hue Essential bulb costs just over $11. TechRadar called that incredible value for any smart light. The report said the bundle suits people new to Hue as well as those looking for an affordable way to extend an existing setup, and the author highly recommended the bulbs.
In the UK, TechRadar described the discount as modest but still great value, with the bulbs under £11 each. The report said Amazon had bumped the price up to £64 the previous week, but warned readers not to be fooled by that, because the bulbs are usually closer to £45.
TechRadar also published lists of other Prime Day deals in the US and UK, including Amazon devices, Apple products, televisions, headphones, laptops, smartwatches, and vacuums, but its Hue coverage singled out the Essential four-pack as the exception among Philips Hue offers.
