TechRadar Guide Maps Amazon's Black-and-White Kindle Choices as Prime Day Discounts Arrive

TechRadar guide compares Amazon's black-and-white Kindles, including screen sizes, storage, colors and Prime Day deals.

The main differences in the black-and-white lineup are screen size, storage, generation and finish. The standard Kindle has a 6-inch screen, while the Kindle Paperwhite has a 7-inch screen, measured diagonally. Signature Edition models offer 32GB of storage instead of 16GB. Buyers can choose between 2024 and new 2026 models, and between versions with homepage ads and versions that cost more without ads. Color and material options vary, and not every combination is available in every market, according to the guide.

For shoppers who want the largest screen, TechRadar said the only choices are the 6-inch standard Kindle and the 7-inch Kindle Paperwhite, so any Paperwhite model is the largest option. For design, the guide points to the 6-inch Kindle, especially the 2026 range. Those latest-generation models come in Ube, a soft purple, Seaglass Green and Alpine Sky, a grey blue. The Seaglass Green and Alpine Sky versions also have an aluminum casing. The Kindle Paperwhite 2024 is available in metallic jade or raspberry finishes in the US only, while the 2024 standard Kindle comes in Matcha. Other models are limited to gray or black.

Price-conscious buyers in the US will find most 2024 Kindles in the Prime Day sale, the guide said, with strong discounts across the lineup. That includes the 6-inch Kindle, the 7-inch Paperwhite and the Paperwhite Signature. The deals are limited to ad-supported versions. The cheapest option is the 2024 6-inch Kindle. In the UK, only the 2024 6-inch Kindles are discounted, but both ad-supported and no-ads versions are included. TechRadar described the UK discounts as large and said the older versions are significantly cheaper than other options, adding that they may not remain available for long.

For storage, the guide said buyers need a 2026 6-inch Kindle with an aluminum finish or, in the US, any Paperwhite Signature model. Those are the only options with 32GB. The rest of the range has 16GB. TechRadar noted that 16GB should hold roughly 6,000 to 8,000 regular books. Comic books and audiobooks take up more space, but the guide does not recommend a black-and-white Kindle for either; it says a color e-reader is better for comics and manga, and a phone is preferable for audiobooks.

The guide highlights one usability change in the 2026 Kindle range. The power button has moved from the bottom to the top right, solving a problem that made the device easy to switch off accidentally when propped up for reading. Amazon has also introduced the Kindle Click, a Bluetooth page-turn remote that can be held in the hand or placed away from the e-reader. It can also adjust brightness and put the Kindle to sleep. The accessory is sold separately, is compatible with Kindles from 2024 and later, and is available for preorder, according to TechRadar.

The guide also lists other US Prime Day deals beyond Kindles. Amazon Devices, including Fire Sticks and Echo, start at $18, while Amazon Haul items described as viral gadgets, tech and appliances start at $1.36. Apple deals on MacBooks, AirPods and AirTags are also listed.

Editor's Summary TechRadar's guide outlines Amazon's black-and-white Kindle lineup, from 6-inch and 7-inch models to storage and color options, as Prime Day discounts favor 2024 devices. The 2026 models add a relocated power button and support for the Kindle Click remote, while the US and UK sales differ. Buyers seeking the lowest price, largest screen or most storage face different trade-offs.
