TechRadar Guide Outlines How Businesses Should Choose Customer Support Software

TechRadar's Oct. 20, 2026 guide advises businesses to choose customer support software by size, business type and request complexity, with ticket management, knowledge bases, live chat and security as key checks.

TechRadar reported that customer support software is the digital tool a business uses to receive, organize and respond to customer requests. The guide describes it as a sorting system for inquiries: when a customer sends a request, it is logged into the support system, categorized by its details and assigned to a team or agent based on predefined settings.

For an electronics store, TechRadar said, requests can include hardware malfunctions, price questions, setup guidance and returns. The guide says support platforms can route hardware malfunction inquiries to an in-house expert, and can aggregate requests from email, social media and online forms into a single dashboard.

TechRadar identified ticket management as the foundation of a support platform. Every inquiry becomes a trackable ticket assigned automatically or manually to an agent or team, so it is not lost. The guide says the ticketing system should include status updates such as "In Progress," "In Review" and "Closed," allowing another agent to continue a colleague's work, and internal notes that add context to an inquiry.

The guide also recommends a knowledge base containing tutorials, user guides and answers to frequently asked questions, because many customers prefer to resolve issues themselves and seek help only when they cannot. TechRadar said advanced platforms usually include a content management system with professional templates for creating detailed and simple user guides. A knowledge base can also make support operations more efficient, the guide says, because agents can direct customers to specific documents instead of repeatedly explaining the same steps.

On live chat, TechRadar said customers often want speedy answers, and support platforms provide infrastructure for seamless chat between customers and agents. When a customer starts a live chat, an available agent can be alerted immediately, and after the chat the customer can receive an automated survey to evaluate the experience. The guide says the most advanced tools add AI chatbots that respond to mundane requests based on preset commands, freeing support teams to focus on more complex inquiries, but it states that chatbots are not a replacement for the support team and instead augment agents' efforts.

TechRadar also highlighted security, saying support inquiries often involve sensitive customer data. The guide says customer support platforms use advanced encryption protocols to prevent unauthorized access and should have role-based control, in which the administrator decides which data support agents can see. It cites an example of allowing only a finance support team to monitor customer data.

TechRadar said the choice should not be made lightly and should depend on the business type, size and complexity of the support requests it handles.

Editor's Summary

TechRadar published a guide on Oct. 20, 2026, telling businesses to weigh ticket management, knowledge base tools, live chat and security when choosing customer support software. The guide says routing and status updates keep inquiries from being lost, while AI chatbots should support rather than replace agents. It also says administrators should control data access through role-based permissions.
