TechRadar Posts Sept. 12 Hints and Answers for NYT Strands, Quordle and Connections

According to TechRadar, the theme for NYT Strands #923 is Don't obsess. The guide lists EACH, STEED, BEAR, GONE, GUNGE, TRIFLE and LIFE as clue words that unlock the in-game hints system. It says the spangram has seven letters and touches the left side of the board in the fourth row and the right side in the fifth row. The answers are LIBERATE, FREE, RELEASE, DETACH and UNLOOSE, with the spangram LETITGO. TechRadar rated the puzzle Hard and said its writer used one hint. The writer said they did not understand the theme at first and needed the clue word FREE after spotting LIBERATE before making progress. They also said they first heard the phrase LETITGO in the 1990s from a Buddhist rapper, and that while they generally follow the philosophy, they believe some people deserve negative energy.

For NYT Connections #1189, TechRadar reported four categories. The yellow group, ways to personalize a car, was BUMPER STICKER, FUZZY DICE, HOOD ORNAMENT and VANITY PLATE. The green group, people in an online forum, was LURKER, POSTER, SPAMMER and TROLL. The blue group, things that blink, was CURSOR, EYELIDS, SMOKE DETECTOR and TURN SIGNAL. The purple group, words that precede ALERT, was NERD, RED, SPOILER and WEATHER. TechRadar rated the game Hard and said its writer made two mistakes. The writer said they tried SPOILER for both the car personalization and online forum groups, and also mentioned seeing a bumper sticker at a music festival that featured David Byrne and lyrics from the Talking Heads song Once in a Lifetime.

Quordle #1692 had three different standard vowels, one answer with a repeated letter, and no Q, Z, X or J, according to TechRadar. Two answers started with the same letter, and the starting letters were S, B, R and S. The answers were SUPER, BRUSH, RESET and SOWER. In the Daily Sequence, the answers were EARTH, PEACH, SKIFF and WAGER. TechRadar's writer said they doubted SOWER even though only three possibilities remained from their letters, and that the puzzle had been stress-free until then, so they needed some risk to feel a sense of achievement. The guide also included the previous 20 Quordle answers, from game #1691 on September 11, which were PLUSH, PAINT, RIVAL and AFOUL, to game #1672 on August 23, which were CHASM, BLAME, PARER and BYLAW.

TechRadar's guides are published daily and include spoiler warnings before the answers. For Connections, the guide explained the game's color-coded difficulty, from green as easy to purple as usually very difficult, and noted that players can make up to four mistakes. For Strands, it said a new puzzle appears at midnight in each player's time zone, meaning some players are playing today's game while others are playing yesterday's. Quordle, described as one of the original Wordle alternatives, has been running for more than 1,500 games.
