TechRadar praises Garmin Fenix 9 Pro as Labor Day deals bring Fenix 8 to record-low prices

TechRadar praises Garmin's new Fenix 9 Pro in its latest review, while Labor Day discounts cut Fenix 8 prices to their lowest on Amazon.

In the review, TechRadar says it attended the Fenix 9 launch in Chamonix and kept the 43mm Fenix 9 Pro with inReach on its wrist afterward. The watch uses a titanium case and bezel with a nanomolding construction that removes screws, making it lighter, thinner and more polished in appearance than the Fenix 8 Pro, the reviewer writes. The 43mm option, new to the lineup, also makes the watch easier to wear day to day.

The Fenix 9 Pro has a 3,000-nit AMOLED display that is brighter and clearer, and its LED torch adds a green-light mode, which TechRadar says helped preserve night vision. Maps load faster and add a Perspective orientation for urban navigation. New software features include Stamina Zones, an Epic option that groups workouts or trips to show their cumulative effect, and an updated Rucking activity mode that accounts for pack weight. The review notes that battery drains quickly during GPS workouts when not using Max Battery mode.

According to the review, the watch retains LTE-M cellular and inReach satellite connectivity from the Fenix 8 Pro, allowing calls, messages and SOS use from the wrist. But Garmin global lead product manager Jon Hosler acknowledged to TechRadar that the brand still lags Apple and others with more control over the cellular ecosystem. TechRadar's verdict calls the Fenix 9 Pro a near-perfect performance watch with an aspirational price, but says Fenix 8 owners should not treat it as a realistic upgrade.

The Labor Day coverage from TechRadar lists multiple Fenix 8 discounts at Amazon. The 43mm Fenix 8 AMOLED in Silver and Whitestone is $749.99, down from $999.99, a price TechRadar says is the lowest it has recorded for a Fenix 8. The 47mm Fenix 8 is listed at $838.99, and the Fenix 8 Pro with inReach is $949.99, down from $1,199.99, in both 47mm and 51mm sizes. The Fenix 8 Pro (51mm) is listed at $1,049.99, down from $1,299.99.

TechRadar adds that even though Fenix 8 watches are no longer the latest models, the discounted versions remain top-quality adventure companions and should last for years.
