TechRadar Praises Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls but Warns About PC Version

TechRadar praises Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls but flags PC DRM and PSN login issues that block online play.

TechRadar said the 4v4 tag fighter is easy to pick up and play while offering a sky-high skill ceiling. Because a team shares a single health bar, players can focus on one main character and rely on the other three as assist moves, making the game accessible without requiring mastery of all four fighters.

The review singled out the story mode for praise, calling its five 'Episodes' charming and filled with gorgeous art. Each episode centers on a team, including the Fighting Avengers (Captain America, Black Panther), the Samurai Outriders (Deadpool, Loki), and the villainous Knights of Doom (Doctor Doom, Green Goblin, Carnage). Episodes end with a battle against the antagonist, the Champion, and are framed by comic-book cutscenes from a unique artist and colorist per episode. The cel-shaded presentation, with top-tier animation and super-move cut-ins, also earned a shoutout.

Training tools are another highlight. TechRadar praised the fully featured practice mode, combo trials, and level-up missions that task players with building their own combos to reach damage thresholds. The reviewer said these tools help newcomers while giving experienced players plenty to dig into.

The problems with the PC version, however, cloud the game's future. TechRadar said the PC release is 'stuffed to the gills' with anti-cheat bloatware, and online play is blocked in over 100 countries because of the PSN account requirement. Ongoing issues with matchmaking were also noted, and the launch roster felt 'a tad cramped.'

TechRadar reported that Arc System Works is already deploying patches to improve PC matchmaking and performance, but expressed doubt that the bloatware and forced PSN account creation would be fixed. Despite these concerns, the reviewer concluded the game is a 'gloriously fun' tag fighter and one of the best fighting games of recent times.
