TechRadar Publishes Hints and Answers for Quordle, Strands and Connections on October 19

TechRadar released its daily guides for Quordle game #1729, NYT Strands #960 and NYT Connections #1226 on Monday, listing hints first and answers further down each column.

For Quordle, the four answers were EXIST, DECOY, HITCH and FLUID, according to TechRadar. The hints published ahead of the answers said the board contained four different standard vowels, that one answer had a repeated letter, that one of Q, Z, X or J appeared among the solutions and that no two answers began with the same letter; the starting letters were given as E, D, H and F. The column's author wrote that the win streak survived because the last guess risked a rare letter, and that the main obstacle was the number of possible words ending in I-T-C-H, of which only a couple were tried. TechRadar also listed the answers to the Quordle Daily Sequence for the same date: RUGBY, SLICK, OLDEN and RANCH.

The Strands column set the theme as "It's all Greek to me" and said the spangram had 12 letters, touching the left side at the eighth row and the right side at the sixth row. The six theme answers were DEITY, DRYAD, FATES, MUSES, FURIES, NYMPH and SATYR, with MYTHOLOGICAL as the spangram. Six clue words — MESSY, FRIED, RICE, GOLD, HEIST and NASTY — were offered to unlock the in-game hint system. The author rated the puzzle Hard and reported spending three hints, writing that he had hoped the Greek theme pointed to food rather than mythological figures. The previous day's Strands answers were WATCH, SNEAKERS, HEADPHONES, VEST and SUNGLASSES, under the spangram RUNNINGGEAR.

In Connections, the sixteen words included MOHAWK, MUFFIN, HOT AIR, BALLOON, RAVE, WIND, FLURRY, STEAM, GAS, RIB, FUME, ALIBIS, BOIL, BLATHER, ESCROW and NUGGETS. The yellow group, SEETHE, was BOIL, FUME, RAVE and STEAM; green, ALL TALK, was BLATHER, GAS, HOT AIR and WIND; blue, "MC" THINGS AT MCDONALD'S, was FLURRY, MUFFIN, NUGGETS and RIB; and purple, ENDING IN BIRDS, was ALIBIS, BALLOON, ESCROW and MOHAWK. TechRadar rated the board Hard and its writer recorded one mistake, having first grouped STEAM, HOT AIR, GAS and WIND as things that move a balloon. Sunday's game #1225 used the groups places to store clothes, things that come in sticks, famous perfumes, and words starting with things that cloud the air.

Quordle, which presents four Wordle-style grids at once, is described by TechRadar as one of the original Wordle alternatives and is still running after more than 1,500 daily games. Strands followed Wordle, Spelling Bee and Connections into the NYT Games lineup and has been running for about a year; it is playable free on the NYT Games site on desktop and mobile. Connections asks players to sort sixteen words into four groups of four, with difficulty rising from yellow to purple and up to four mistakes allowed before the game ends.
