TechRadar Publishes October 6 Answers for Quordle, NYT Strands and NYT Connections
TechRadar posted hints and answers for Quordle #1716, NYT Strands #947 and NYT Connections #1213 on Tuesday, October 6.
For Quordle #1716, TechRadar said the puzzle contains three different standard vowels—A, E, I, O or U, not Y—and two answers with repeated letters. None of Q, Z, X or J appear, and no two answers start with the same letter. The four starting letters are F, S, B and E. The answers are FRESH, SKULK, BATCH and ENSUE. TechRadar's writer noted that a first guess of 'skull' produced four correct letters but one wrong in SKULK, a result that mixed happiness and annoyance before the remaining guesses succeeded. The separate Quordle Daily Sequence for game #1716 produced QUALM, DETER, UNDUE and SAVVY. TechRadar noted Quordle was one of the original Wordle alternatives and remains active after more than 1,500 games.
For NYT Strands #947, the theme was Changing course. TechRadar's clue words were HOOF, HOOT, STOVE, ROAR, SEAL and SLED. The spangram had 16 letters and touched the bottom of the board at the third column and the bottom at the fourth column. The answers were FLIP, UNDO, REVERSED, OVERTURN and BACKPEDAL, with THEOLDSWITCHEROO as the spangram. TechRadar rated the puzzle Hard and reported a score of one hint. The column said THEOLDSWITCHEROO was the longest spangram in a long time, surpassing 'cardiovascular' from last month at 14 letters, and that it started and ended on the same side of the grid. The search was trickier than usual, with difficult non-game words and BACKPEDAL connecting in a spiraling fashion. The previous day's Strands answers, for Monday, October 5, game #946, were ALAS, BUMMER, SUCKS, BOOHOO, UNFORTUNATE and SORRY, with SADTROMBONE as the spangram.
For NYT Connections #1213, TechRadar listed the words ADIRONDACK, KNICKKNACK, CATSKILL, HOLIDAY, COMFORT, BERKSHIRE, STABILITY, HAMPTON, WINDSOR, MERRILL, WINGBACK, DAYS, CITI, PIANOFORTE, EAMES and GOLDMAN. The yellow group was financial firms, for short: BERKSHIRE, CITI, GOLDMAN and MERRILL. The green group was kinds of chairs: ADIRONDACK, EAMES, WINDSOR and WINGBACK. The blue group was inn hotels: COMFORT, DAYS, HAMPTON and HOLIDAY. The purple group was ending in talents: CATSKILL, KNICKKNACK, PIANOFORTE and STABILITY. TechRadar rated the puzzle Hard and reported three mistakes. The column said the writer was on the right track with the green and blue groups but needed multiple attempts for both. EAMES and WINGBACK were familiar chairs, while BERKSHIRE and then MERRILL were initially tried in that group. For inn hotels, DAYS, COMFORT and HOLIDAY were locked in before HAMPTON was identified as the fourth. The writer also blanked on the financial firms in the yellow group but found the purple group by spotting the four tiles ending in talents. The previous day's Connections answers, for Monday, October 5, game #1212, were CONTENT, PEACEFUL, PLACID and SERENE for calm; EXPLICIT, GRAPHIC, STRONG and SUGGESTIVE for adjectives for mature content; ADVISORY, CHESS, IRONING and MESSAGE for kinds of boards; and PARENT, PLEASE, SAPPHIRE and SLOAN for ending in ways to temporarily acquire.
NYT Connections is one of several word games made by the New York Times. It asks players to find groups of four items that share something in common, with green rated easy, yellow a little harder, blue often tough and purple usually very difficult. Players can make up to four mistakes, and the final group can be solved by elimination. The game is playable for free through the NYT Games site on desktop or mobile. Strands is also available through the NYT Games site on desktop or mobile, according to TechRadar. Quordle, which was not described as an NYT game in the source, appears at midnight each day for a player's time zone, as do the NYT puzzles.
