TechRadar reviews GMKtec NucBox EVO-X1 Pro: powerful AMD mini PC at $1,599.99

TechRadar's review of the GMKtec NucBox EVO-X1 Pro finds a fast AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 470 mini PC with 64GB of soldered RAM and strong connectivity, but at $1,599.99 for the 64GB/1TB model it is not cheap and carries a one-year warranty.

The review said the EVO-X1 Pro uses AMD's Ryzen AI 9 HX 470, a 12-core, 24-thread chip with a 2GHz base clock and up to 5.2GHz turbo, 12MB of L2 cache and 24MB of L3 cache. It pairs the CPU with a Radeon 890M GPU with 16 compute units up to 3.1GHz and an NPU rated at up to 55 TOPS (Int8), with platform AI totaling up to 86 TOPS across CPU, GPU and NPU.

The system ships with 64GB of LPDDR5 memory at 6400MT/s that is soldered and cannot be upgraded, plus a 1TB M.2 2280 NVMe SSD on a PCIe Gen4 x4 slot and a second M.2 2280 PCIe 4.0 x4 slot for expansion. Connectivity includes WiFi 7, USB4, OCuLink, dual 2.5GbE LAN ports and triple display outputs over HDMI, DisplayPort and USB-C, according to TechRadar.

GMKtec's US store lists the 64GB/1TB EVO-X1 Pro at $1,599.99 and a 2TB option at $1,769.99. TechRadar noted that at the time of writing every configuration showed as sold out and a banner warned that prices would rise soon. The same store lists a single HX370 model with 32GB of RAM and 1TB of storage at $1,149.99; its memory is also soldered. The US store lists a one-year warranty.

TechRadar said the HX 470 is a small step up from the HX 370, making the 64GB of memory the real story of the EVO-X1 Pro, but it said that even with current RAM prices the memory does not quite justify the price difference. The review still called the machine a terrific NUC with a deceptively powerful platform, while listing its price, one-year limited warranty and port labelling as drawbacks.

Among competitors, TechRadar cited the MINISFORUM AI X1 Pro-470, which uses the same platform but has socketed memory, for $1,655 in a 64GB+1TB configuration and $727 barebones, with a two-year warranty. It also cited the Beelink SER10 MAX AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 470 at $1,699 for 64GB+1TB and the Geekom A9 Max 2026 Edition with 32GB of RAM and 2TB of storage at $1,519, also with socketed memory that can be expanded to 128GB.
