TechRadar Shares Friday, October 9 Answers for Quordle, Connections and Strands
TechRadar's Friday, October 9 puzzle columns provide hints and answers for Quordle game #1719, NYT Connections game #1216 and NYT Strands game #950, including OLDEN, DECISIVE VICTORY and UNBELIEVABLE.
In Quordle #1719, the four answers were OLDEN, DUNCE, SWATH and HILLY. TechRadar described the round as the first five-vowel Quordle in a couple of weeks and said it was tricky; the site reported that OLDEN took a long time to solve even after all the letters were known. The Daily Sequence answers for #1719 were LEANT, MAUVE, EQUIP and STILL. Quordle, one of the original Wordle alternatives, has now run more than 1,500 games, TechRadar said.
For NYT Connections #1216, the yellow category was DECISIVE VICTORY, containing BLOWOUT, ROMP, ROUT and SWEEP. The green category, CONTROLLED BY A TV REMOTE, had CHANNEL, INPUT, POWER and VOLUME. The blue category, FEATURES OF A SPORTS SHOW, contained HIGHLIGHTS, RECAP, SCORES and STATS. The purple category, AIR ____, was CONDITIONER, GUITAR, KISS and QUOTES. TechRadar rated the puzzle Hard and reported a score of two mistakes. It said the first mistake came from grouping HIGHLIGHTS, VOLUME, CONDITIONER and BLOWOUT around the idea of hair, and the second came from choosing QUOTES instead of RECAP in the sports-show group. Connections asks players to sort 16 words into four categories, with up to four mistakes allowed, according to TechRadar.
NYT Strands #950 had the theme "That can't be right." The answers were BALDERDASH, RUBBISH, HOOEY, DRIVEL and NONSENSE, and the spangram was UNBELIEVABLE. TechRadar rated the game Easy and reported a perfect score. The site said it spent a few seconds looking for the word "wrong" before finding BALDERDASH, then focused on words meaning something was a sham and untrustworthy. Strands, which follows Wordle, Spelling Bee and Connections in the NYT Games lineup, can be played on desktop or mobile.
TechRadar noted that each puzzle appears at midnight for a player's time zone, so some people are always playing today's game while others are playing yesterday's. The articles also link to TechRadar's coverage of Wordle, NYT Connections and NYT Strands for readers who want more word-game help. The Quordle column said the day's game had five different standard vowels, one repeated letter, no Q, Z, X or J, and no two answers starting with the same letter. The starting letters were O, D, S and H.
