Tecno shows first truly bezel-free phone in concept device
Tecno has unveiled the Bezelless, a concept phone with no bezel around its screen, and The Verge tested a prototype at IFA 2026. The device proves a frameless display is possible but won't go on sale.
According to The Verge's Dominic Preston, who held the prototype, looking at the phone head-on, the screen ends and the frame begins with no black in between. Only when viewed at an angle can a fraction of a black line be seen under the frame. Tecno removed the bezel by using two layers of cover glass: the top layer meets the frame's edge, while the lower glass layer and the OLED panel extend beneath the frame. This required assembling the phone from the rear and fixing the screen from the front with a custom adhesive.
The Verge said the design makes the display feel more expansive, helped by a light silver frame, and photos and videos stretch to the edge, although letterboxing on video remains. The reviewer noted the frame is slightly thicker than on most modern phones, but compared with a Samsung Galaxy S26 Plus, the Bezelless still has less material around the screen. However, the review said this is not a functional upgrade and that Tecno's claim of "redefining how users will interact with their phones in the AI era" feels "a bit much."
The concept handset is powered by a MediaTek Dimensity 7400e chipset with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, and has a 6,000mAh battery. It has two rear cameras—a 50-megapixel main shooter and an 8-megapixel ultrawide—plus a 32-megapixel front camera; the reviewer was surprised Tecno did not use an under-display camera. The back features a butterfly design with a 3D effect and a red notification LED. Tecno has previously shown other concepts this year, including a phone with a color-changing E Ink rear and a magnetic modular device, none of which have reached production.
The Bezelless will never be sold, but it proves that a bezel-free smartphone is possible. The Verge noted that Apple has long been rumored to be developing a bezel-less iPhone for its 20th anniversary next year, and Tecno's prototype suggests that idea is not far-fetched. Whether another manufacturer brings the technology to market remains to be seen.
