Telltale Shows The Wolf Among Us 2 Preview at Gamescom 2026, Sets 2027 Launch
Telltale Games showed a new preview of The Wolf Among Us 2 at Gamescom 2026, confirming the long-awaited sequel will arrive in 2027 with a third-person camera shift.
The story picks up six months after the events of the first game. Bigby Wolf, the sheriff of Fabletown, has been temporarily removed from his duties and is investigating a string of murders while working behind the scenes to save a city consumed by corruption, vengeance and fear. In the footage shown to TechRadar, Bigby was portrayed as just as entertaining as in the original entry, with dialogue choices that shape both relationships and the narrative.
The most noticeable gameplay change is a shift to a third-person over-the-shoulder camera, replacing the fixed camera angles used in the first title and in most of Telltale's earlier games. TechRadar compared this to Capcom's switch to third-person action in Resident Evil 4. Telltale's design director Jessica Hara Campbell and principal scene coordinator Leslie Harwood said the change was made to push "further immersion" as players control Bigby across a long run of investigations.
Campbell stressed that the team intends to preserve the core of what fans know and love. "What we are looking at in a lot of our gameplay systems is keeping the core of what was built," she said. "For our fan base, there's a very specific feeling of nostalgia, but the core of that is the noir detective piece that we don't want to reinvent the wheel on. It's about making sure the game still feels like Wolf [first entry], and with returning players, they feel like they're kind of coming along."
The game also introduces a new dynamic style for investigating areas and objects. Players are no longer expected to examine every item or space, hints can be turned off, and the game will not pull players back to an earlier step if they are already ahead in a puzzle. Campbell said this design choice is meant to respect players' detective work.
During the preview, one sequence required Bigby to decide whether to lie to a new character named Faye about whether the ongoing case involved magic, as she suspected a Fable was the murderer. The classic Telltale notification "X will remember that" indicated consequences, and sometimes silence was the best answer, the reporter noted.
The Wolf Among Us 2 is expected to launch in 2027, though no specific quarter has been announced. TechRadar's reporter expressed hope that the game will arrive without further delays, saying they are excited about what Telltale has been working on.
