Tencent Links WeCom With WorkBuddy as Doubao Work Adds Cross-AI Import

Tencent's WeCom and WorkBuddy launched a two-way integration on Oct. 14, 2026, while ByteDance's Doubao Work added one-click imports from other AI tools and new conversation controls, deepening competition in AI-assisted office software.

For Tencent, the integration makes WorkBuddy available inside WeCom as a conversational bot listed in enterprise contacts. Users can handle tasks through chat, and WorkBuddy can call WeCom work context, the report said. The two products share one WeCom account system. WorkBuddy's 5.8.0 version supports logging in with a WeCom account and, within the authorization scope set by an enterprise, obtains ten categories of permissions covering messages, documents, meetings and cloud storage. It can then perform deep analysis, process complex documents and carry out other tasks. WeCom's 5.0.12 version adds the bot to the corporate contact list.

Tencent says the value lies in what it calls all-domain context. That includes internal collaboration data such as documents and meetings, as well as external customer needs, service records and business feedback. Because WeCom connects companies with external customers and partners, WorkBuddy can use that broader context in project collaboration, business processes and customer service. Tencent says the assistant can help move tasks forward and identify customer opportunities, moving AI from individual productivity toward what the company describes as organizational productivity.

The account integration also changes how companies deploy AI. Administrators can configure a company's WorkBuddy bot inside WeCom, assign accounts, manage usage and purchase AI computing power. They can set access permissions according to employee roles and restrict AI access to highly sensitive information, making data flow and responsibility boundaries clearer. Tencent says this gives enterprises more control than when employees adopt AI tools individually.

According to Leiphone, Tencent is also presenting the system as an open platform for AI. WeCom and WorkBuddy support multiple models and multiple agents, and enterprises can combine AI capabilities by job function and business scenario. WorkBuddy's enterprise edition office suite can connect in one step with Tencent products including Tencent Docs, Tencent Lexiang, Tencent Drive, its security and efficiency operations platform and its AI design agent Ardot. The companies say this allows shared office memory and data, with one agent foundation supporting both the user experience and the management console.

The new interoperability features are available to verified WeCom enterprises, with limited free trial slots, the report said. Companies can claim, apply for or purchase access. L'Oreal, McDonald's and BYD are exploring deployments of the WeCom plus WorkBuddy package.

ByteDance's Doubao Work, meanwhile, has added a data import and sync function that lets users import data from other AI products with one click, according to Leiphone. The feature supports adapted products including ChatGPT, Claude Code and TraeWork. Users can import locally stored task preference instructions, skills, connectors, work memory, projects and historical sessions. When switching to Doubao Work, they can keep existing work preferences and materials, reducing repeated configuration and the need to restate context. Imported sessions retain their original context and can be continued inside Doubao Work. The function is found in Settings under Data Import and Sync, and users can enable automatic sync for sources that support it.

Doubao Work also introduced a continue in a new conversation option. It allows users to try other approaches or switch models based on an existing discussion. After selecting the function entry on a message, the existing context is carried into the new conversation, while the original conversation remains available for review. The company says this lets users explore a new direction with existing background without mixing multiple lines of discussion in one thread.

A message annotation feature lets users select specific content in a Doubao reply and add an explanation or question. The original text and annotation are automatically placed in the input box, and users can send multiple segments together. This ties a question, clarification or revision request to the exact source text, reducing the need to quote and explain what is being discussed. A new conversation summary sidebar collects the tasks being executed, conversation outputs, skills and connectors, making it easier to track progress and find previous results.
