Tencent's Delta Force Unveils UE5 Upgrade and New Maps at Two-Year Anniversary

At its two-year anniversary, Tencent's Delta Force announced a UE5 upgrade, new maps and modes, and offline and global initiatives, after its China server DAU peaked above 50 million and the game contributed to Tencent's 2025 revenue growth.

In January 2026, Pony Ma described IEG's performance over the past year as 'scarily strong' at an internal Tencent meeting. In 2025, while the global game market grew about 3%, Tencent's game revenue rose 22% to 241.6 billion yuan. Delta Force, two years after launch, moved quickly into Tencent's evergreen game lineup.

At the anniversary presentation, producer Shadow said the UE5 technical upgrade would be implemented next season. The change is intended to allow larger spaces, richer interactions and more complex combat relationships to be designed and realized, not simply to improve visuals. A new full-scale battlefield map, Skyline, will add tsunami and other disaster events. With real-time lighting and scene destruction, those events are meant to become variables in the battle, pushing the large-scale mode toward a more pressurized disaster-survival experience.

The UE5 step follows earlier updates. The full-scale battlefield map Pyramid used Photogrammetry to improve scene asset precision, and the first phase of all-scene destructibility launched with the new map Aftershock. For a long-running FPS, the report said, engine, scene and interaction technology determine whether mature gameplay can still produce new variables, because adding only maps and weapons can accelerate content consumption.

The anniversary also introduced new ways to play. Valkyrie, a new map in Firestorm, divides the map with a high wall into an inner city and an outer city. The inner city concentrates technology, wealth and secrets but is highly dangerous; the outer city is more chaotic, with damaged buildings and more opportunities. Knife runs, extraction camping and aggressive assaults, previously separated across matches, can meet on the same city map. Black Tide Demolition, a 5v5 attack-and-defense bomb mode, brings a classic FPS format into Delta Force with gun fighting, site plants, operator styles and run-and-gun mechanics. After a first test in July, its beta season launched on Sept. 27.

The Special Operations expansion's first G.T.I. Cabin gives players space to create their own content: they can design layouts, build scenes and invite friends for new social play. The Stars Plan adds character stories. Deep Blue, or Alexei Petrov, is a former instructor who experienced war, returned to the battlefield and sees protecting young operators as his responsibility. Players have created character analysis, story interpretations, hand-drawn works and tribute songs around him. Community-created expressions such as 'shushu' and 'hajifeng' have been recognized by wider circles through fan works, no longer only internal slang.

The anniversary event itself made player participation more visible. Before the anniversary, players searched maps, event pages and communities for anniversary egg fragments, then posted what they found so others could supplement, verify and assemble the clues. Twigs, passwords and dot-matrix images became a collective decoding effort. When the anniversary opened on Sept. 24, the final egg moved into matches: players had to carry a specific item into Longbow Valley, place it in a bird's nest according to rules, activate a countdown and wait for the final egg to open. Officials provided clues and rules; players found, discussed, interpreted and spread solutions, and those solutions became part of the event.

Outside the screen, Delta Force's Spring Festival collaboration with Haidilao showed how the game's language can move into physical spaces. Players noticed that the four buildings in the game's Space Base core area resembled Haidilao's classic four-grid hot pot, and memes recreated the base with hot pot. The partnership set up multiple themed stores nationwide and offered 300,000 limited physical room cards; reports cited by Leiphone said the limited cards sold out quickly. The related Douyin topic had more than 200 million views in a single week, co-branded product transactions exceeded 100 million yuan, and monthly redemptions broke a historical peak. Player culture also fed back into the game: the sign-holding gesture familiar from Haidilao was added to matches as a way to show goodwill.

On Sept. 22, Delta Force launched the Top Secret Chongqing special operation, moving investigation, searching and intelligence gathering into the city. Players could go to Hongya Cave and other real locations, complete tasks, upload intelligence and claim game rewards. The event was packaged as 'I come to play with you.' The report said this differed from ordinary offline advertising because players were bringing in-game rules and knowledge to real locations and interacting with other players.

The game now covers China PC, mobile and overseas console platforms. Cross-platform play lowers the barrier for playing together, while globalization extends the same rules and language farther. The 2026 Firestorm World Cup will be held in Stockholm, Sweden, in November, with 12 teams from around the world; the Chinese mainland region will send three teams. The report framed the anniversary's path as moving from gameplay depth and player co-creation to culture spilling out of the game. The question for a long-running FPS, it said, is whether content can serve different kinds of players and whether community culture can cross the screen to offline and global spaces.

Editor's Summary Tencent's Delta Force marked its two-year anniversary with a UE5 upgrade, new maps and modes, and offline and global initiatives, after reaching a China server DAU peak above 50 million and contributing to Tencent's 2025 games revenue growth. The event leaned on player co-creation, from in-game egg hunts to character fan works and a Haidilao crossover, while also extending the game's reach through a Chongqing city operation and an international esports tournament. The title's next phase will test whether technical upgrades, community culture and cross-platform play can keep an evergreen FPS growing beyond the screen.
