TextExpander Launches Free Plan Across Mac, iPhone, iPad, Windows and Chrome

TextExpander now offers a free plan with five active snippets and cross-platform support.

The free tier has limits. Only five Snippets can be active at once, and the Free plan allows only one active Snippet to be swapped every two weeks. According to 9to5Mac, that limit can feel restrictive, but the plan may also serve as an entry point for users who keep shorter, simpler text replacements in macOS and reserve TextExpander for longer or more complex snippets.

TextExpander has been one of the first apps a 9to5Mac writer installs on a new Mac. Over the years, the writer built a library of roughly 200 Snippets, the app's term for text abbreviations that automatically expand into pre-written text. The writer said most of these are expanded regularly to reply to emails, fill out forms, prepare podcast outlines, pull sponsorship reads and write show notes.

macOS has improved its native text replacement support, but TextExpander still offers features such as variable support, conditional sections, nested snippets and math macros, according to 9to5Mac. Those features have made it an essential tool for the writer. The company told 9to5Mac that the free plan provides the five active Snippets, unlimited library storage, unlimited text expansions and up to five team members.

The free plan works across Mac, iPhone, iPad, Windows and Chrome. The company told 9to5Mac that the same Snippet library stays in sync across those devices. It directed users to a link for more information about the free plan. The free plan is available now.

Editor's Summary TextExpander has introduced a free plan that provides five active snippets, unlimited library storage and text expansions, and cross-platform syncing for Mac, iPhone, iPad, Windows and Chrome. The plan also supports up to five team members, though it limits users to one active snippet swap every two weeks. The move gives new users a way to try the app's core expansion features before paying for more active snippets.
