Things, Fantastical, and Cardhop Add iOS 27 and Siri AI Support on Launch Day

Cultured Code released Things 3.24 with support for iOS 27, iPadOS 27, watchOS 27 and macOS 27 Golden Gate. The update includes full integration with the new Siri, with the caveat that users should check whether it is available on their device, and full integration with Spotlight, the built-in search. It adds more snoozing options for notifications with more suitable durations, a new extra-tall widget for seeing longer lists, and other compatibility improvements. New versions for iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch and Mac are already on the App Store. The release follows Things 3.23 last month, which introduced a requested update to repeating to-dos.

Flexibits released Fantastical 4.2 and Cardhop 2.5 for the new Apple systems. With Fantastical 4.2, users can ask Siri to check a calendar, create an event or change an existing appointment. Flexibits says a user can ask what a schedule looks like on October 5, move a meeting if the timing does not work, and then reference those conversations in the Siri app. The update supports extra-tall Event List and Event List + Calendar widgets on iOS and macOS. On the Mac, Fantastical has a refreshed Liquid Glass interface for macOS 27 and restores the familiar sidebar appearance. Cardhop 2.5 adds larger Quick Actions and Celebrations widgets. Both apps support extra-tall layouts on iOS and macOS, while extra-wide options are available on iPadOS, macOS and visionOS.

Also on launch day, Federico Viticci published his annual iOS review on MacStories. He wrote that iOS 27 is not as flashy as last year but shows Apple is still capable of delivering something new while caring about the old, and that it is good to see Apple sweat the details again. In his assessment of Apple Intelligence and Siri AI, Viticci said the new Siri is not an agentic product that can carry out long-running tasks to completion, and he called comparisons to ChatGPT Work, Claude Cowork, Grok Bot, Hermes Agent or OpenClaw absurd. He said he would like Siri AI to become that kind of experience and that Apple seems to think it now has a foundation in place to enable agentic behavior at some point. As things stand, given his reliance on Notion, Slack and Superhuman for work, and the simpler, less intelligent nature of Siri AI, he cannot imagine using Apple's assistant for productivity purposes. He instead appreciates Siri AI as a much better, smarter Siri that does not aim to replace a favorite agent yet. He has enjoyed using Siri with Apple Notes, Reminders, HomeKit and third-party apps such as AskPlay, Monologue, Alyx, MusicBox and LookUp. He found Siri AI best at quick, one-off interactions that may involve a couple of follow-ups, and he falls back to ChatGPT or Open Minis for deeper research.
