Tiny Computers app turns iPhone Duo into miniature vintage Macs
Tiny Computers turns the iPhone Duo into miniature vintage Macs and classic PCs, with limited interactive features.
Users can choose a 1984 original Macintosh reimagined as a laptop, along with the iMac G3, iBook G3 and PowerBook G4. The non-Apple options include the Commodore 64, IBM PC, Amiga 500, ThinkPad and two laptops running Windows 95 and Windows XP.
Each machine offers a limited degree of functionality, according to the report. Users can click keyboards, work in command lines, use paint programs and floppy disks, and play familiar desktop games. They can open windows, write a note, draw something small and explore each computer’s personality; the app also includes hidden files, secret commands and a medal for every computer’s game. The Windows machines occasionally crash, the report said.
9to5Mac described the app as part of a trend of new iPhone software that turns the device into older hardware, after a 1980s Sony Walkman emulator. Daring Fireball’s John Gruber commented: “If you’ve got or get a Duo and don’t try this out, you’re not hooked up right.” Tiny Computers is available on the App Store.
