Fujifilm Instax Mini Evo 2 adds touchscreen and short video capture

Fujifilm’s $290 Instax Mini Evo 2, due at the end of November, adds a 4.5-inch touchscreen, a larger sensor and short video capture.

The new model has a 1/2.77-inch sensor, compared with the 1/5-inch sensor on the original Mini Evo. Its rear display measures 4.5 inches and supports touch controls, making it Fujifilm’s first Instax model with an LCD touchscreen. The larger screen replaces the rear controls that were on the earlier camera, but Fujifilm has kept two dials and a film-inspired print lever. Users can operate the 10 film and 10 lens effect options with either the dials or the touchscreen; the selection has changed slightly from the first model. An Expanded View mode gives a wider field of view than the shooting area, according to the report.

The camera can record basic video, but only the few seconds leading up to a photo. The MP4 clips can be saved only to a microSD card, although the camera has internal storage for photos. No audio is recorded, and video quality is limited to 560 by 992 pixels at 24 frames per second, DPReview reported, according to The Verge.

The Instax Mini Evo 2 charges over USB-C and prints 2-by-3-inch Instax Mini format photos. Users can adjust exposure, white balance and flash settings. Black is the only color option, and the camera retains the retro look of its predecessor. It will go on sale at the end of November for $290.
