Tokyo's Sushi Bus combines conveyor belt dining with open-air sightseeing
Tokyo's Sushi Bus combines open-air sightseeing with conveyor-belt sushi on a 70-minute route starting October 10.
According to Sora News 24, which first reported the story, the bus is expected to pass landmarks such as Ginza, Shibuya Scramble Crossing and Asakusa's Kaminarimon gate, though the final route has not yet been determined. The vehicle has a kitchen on the first floor, a dining area with conveyor belts on the second floor, and an elevator that allows staff to deliver sushi to passengers.
The project has been in development for about two and a half years, with extensive testing aimed at preventing sushi from falling off the conveyor belt during sudden stops.
Tours will depart from the Kajibashi Parking Lot near Tokyo Station. A ride costs 16,000 yen (about $101) per person, reflecting the limited capacity and novelty factor. The company plans to expand the service to other tourist destinations, including Osaka and Kyoto.
