Total War: Warhammer 40,000 will welcome new players and veterans alike, developer says
Creative Assembly says its upcoming Total War: Warhammer 40,000 will ease newcomers into the franchise while offering a 'juicy' appetizer for veterans, with a 2027 launch planned.
In an interview with TechRadar Gaming at Gamescom, lead designer Joy Dey and battle product owner Dave Petry explained that the team wants to reach as many players as possible. Dey said the tutorial will present a story featuring named characters from the universe and ease players into questions such as what a Space Marine is and what motivates them. The tutorial will focus on the Space Marines and act as a gateway into the broader 40K setting.
Dey acknowledged that battles can be quite complex, but said every gameplay system—from pause-and-play and taking cover to analyzing the battlefield and using height as a tactical advantage—will be introduced and taught during the tutorial. According to TechRadar, the tutorial will also reintroduce or tweak many "reformed battle features" for the new title.
Petry described the tutorial as "kind of like an appetizer" for experienced players, offering new information and lore while warming them up. He added that for players unfamiliar with Total War or Warhammer 40,000, it is "such a good entry point." He noted that the 40,000 universe is "absolutely gargantuan" and a wonderful opportunity to show people "how cool and great Total War is."
Total War: Warhammer 40,000 is scheduled to launch in 2027 for PS5, Xbox Series X, Series S, and PC.
