TP-Link Starts Selling Archer 8 Ultra, the First Wi-Fi 8 Router, With Preorder Discount

TP-Link has begun selling the Archer 8 Ultra, the first Wi-Fi 8 router, in the UK, Australia, Germany and other markets. UK preorders cost £669.99 before rising to £899.99, though no Wi-Fi 8 client devices are available yet.

Pricing varies by region. In the UK, the Archer 8 Ultra is listed at £899.99, but customers who preorder can get it for £669.99, or around AU$1,200, TechRadar reported. The full UK price is around AU$1,700. The router is also available in Australia and Germany, with TP-Link not yet naming all the other markets.

The Archer 8 Ultra provides Wi-Fi 8 coverage of up to 3,600 square feet, or 3,000 square feet in Europe. Wi-Fi 8 is not focused on raw speed alone. Its key advantages over Wi-Fi 7 include better handling of interference in crowded, signal-dense environments, greater reliability with more connected client devices, and a stronger signal at the edges of a network.

TP-Link says its Wi-Fi 8 StabilityEngine technology includes features such as UEQM, MCS and 2xLDPC. The company says these are designed to hold throughput steady in a noisy home, delivering up to 33 percent more consistent throughput at mid-to-long ranges and up to 24 percent more consistent throughput than Wi-Fi 7 under interference. In practice, TechRadar said the technologies help the Wi-Fi signal drop off less sharply as a user moves away from the router and reduce dropped network packets, which helps maintain a more stable connection.

TP-Link also promotes a Multi-Floor Mode feature that reshapes the Wi-Fi signal based on where devices are actually located. The company says this directs coverage to multiple floors when devices are spread across different levels, but flattens the signal into a wide single-floor pattern when they are not. TP-Link further notes that because the Wi-Fi 8 standard is still in draft form, firmware updates will be applied to the Archer 8 Ultra as the standard matures.

The Archer 8 Ultra includes the Aireal AI Assistant, which lets less technical users employ natural language queries to understand and adjust their Wi-Fi coverage. The AI also monitors router performance and continuously optimizes and prioritizes wireless traffic. It adds an Eco mode intended to reduce power usage at night when everyone is asleep.

On security, the router has an integrated VPN at the hardware level to encrypt traffic from selected devices, and it also works with third-party VPNs. Smart Internet of Things devices are kept on their own network away from the main network, and the guest network is separate as well. An optional TP-Link HomeShield service offers real-time protection for devices and parental controls.

TechRadar's analysis noted that with the Archer 8 Ultra now on preorder, the Deco 8 Ultra mesh Wi-Fi system that TP-Link revealed at IFA 2026 is likely not far behind. The Archer 8 Ultra carries a predictably high price, although preordering provides a sizable discount. No consumer hardware supports Wi-Fi 8 yet, including phones, tablets and laptops, and those client devices are not expected until next year, when they will still be limited. Buying the router now is therefore mainly about future-proofing, though current Wi-Fi 7 or earlier devices may see some slight benefits. Waiting could reduce the early adopter premium on the Archer 8 Ultra or other Wi-Fi 8 routers, and customers who do buy should make sure to get the cheaper preorder price.
