Trump Mobile Breach May Have Exposed Data of More Than 3,600 People
Trump Mobile appears to have suffered a data breach that may have exposed the data of 3,615 people, according to PCMag and Straight Arrow News. The reported leak includes names, home addresses, emails, phone numbers, and order information.
PCMag and Straight Arrow News said they contacted several individuals in the dataset, who confirmed that the leaked information was accurate. The leaked data may include people who never fully signed up for Trump Mobile. One person told PCMag that they never managed to set up their account but still gave the company their email address and phone number.
The reported dataset also includes information related to Eric Brunnett, the chief information technology officer at The Trump Organization.
A hacking group called BYOD claimed responsibility for the potential breach. One member told PCMag that they breached the phone service by installing a remote access trojan on an employee of Liberty Mobile, the carrier that powers Trump Mobile’s network. The group also claims to have access to the backend of Trump Mobile’s website, according to Straight Arrow News.
The Verge reached out to Trump Mobile with a request for comment but didn’t immediately hear back.
