TSMC September Sales Hit Record as AI Boom Continues
TSMC September revenue hit record NT$511.86B, up 54.6% y/y on AI chip demand; shares fell 1.35% before release.
The Taiwanese company, the world's largest contract chipmaker, posted revenue of NT$511.86 billion, or $16.03 billion, for September. That was up 54.6% from a year earlier but down 0.6% from August, according to CNBC.
TSMC shares closed 1.35% lower before the monthly figures were released.
The company counts Nvidia and Apple among its customers and has been a major beneficiary of surging demand for advanced AI chips. The September figures add to a banner year that CNBC said has been fueled by the global buildout of AI infrastructure.
In September, TSMC committed to using ASML's High NA extreme ultraviolet lithography machines, a key technology for producing more advanced chips. The decision made TSMC a customer for the equipment, joining Samsung Electronics among chipmakers adopting the technology.
TSMC is scheduled to report its third-quarter earnings next week. The monthly revenue release did not include quarterly profit or margin figures.
The September sales figures came as AI demand continued to shape the semiconductor supply chain. TSMC's advanced manufacturing capacity is central to the production of chips used in AI data centers.
CNBC reported the monthly revenue and the ASML commitment. The report said TSMC has extended its record run in September.
